Is there a way to reset all the ntfs permissions back to their defaults?
I have performed an Upgrade installation and most of my old files and settings are hidden under folders to which as logged in as the administrator I do not have access (access denied)
So starting outlook for example or trying to view my pictures comes back with errors of you do not have permission etc etc etc
Any Ideas?

Mike

NTFS Security Settings
I would try to re-apply the defaults security templates defltbase.inf or defltwk.inf.
You can also simply try to take ownership of the files and folders.

Thanks for the response
I have been taking ownership of files but this is getting tedious now and more importantly I think it is causing a few other issues that are hidden within other spurious errors like trying to install or uninstall certain programs that do work with Vista but always error out so was wondering if there is an easy way to check system wide that the permissions are set correctly

PS aologogies for the multiple posts but when I hit the post button an error page came up saying sorry but we are unable to process your request so I was unaware that it had infact posted. I found that by unticking the notify me of replies check box fixed this problem
